I was cleaning out the basement today and came across an old box of CD’s. A bunch were CDR’s from my early Roland VS-880/MPC days. A lot of people don’t know I use to make beats, and from time to time still do. Nowadays I’m more like Dr. Dre in the background yelling at Ryan “yea, do THAT shit!” Here’s a couple random ones that never got used from back in the good old days. Before Computers. Before Condoms. This was made around 03′/04′ when I was wanted to be a baby Vitamin. I can hear Karim rapping on this. My SCSI drive broke on the MP and I was left with this 2 track. I always wanted to remake it, but you know how that goes. The chops and the pocket is still kinda fresh…minus the midget bass. There was another part of different chops that got lost. RIP.

Was did this around 03′/04′. I planned on it being on “The Language Of My World,” but I couldn’t write to it. Worked on it for too long and lost inspiration.

XP has been needing press photo’s for a while.  I thought we had some left over’s of him from “Fake Empire” but somewhere along the exchanging of memory card’s they got lost.  Ryan was the homie, let me borrow the 5D and XP and I set out for my first ever “Photoshoot” (behind the camera).

I’ve been taking some random pictures around the Studio the past month.  Ryan has been showing me little tricks here and there (turning on the camera, powering the flash, and hooking up the proper settings).  I’ve spent the last 4 years of my life, over his shoulder watching him edit pictures on Photoshop for hours and hours at a time.  I’ve learned a little by observation.  After a lesson a couple months ago, I’ve been putting in work on my bootleg CS4.

The entire shoot was hella fun.  XP was extremely photogenic and we had a great time clowning like we always do.  Huge shout out to Ryan for letting me borrow his camera, and getting me hip to the photo game.  Very appreciated.

I’ve been following Fences for a little while now, after getting introduced to his work through “Songs For Eating And Drinking” (peep the video of it above). I’m really inspired by this dude as a song writer, performer and what I know of him as a person. If you come to Neumos this Thursday, you might even get a chance to see him on stage *wink.

All things entertainment are centered around timing.  It’s more then just inflection, delivery, voice and content.  It’s using your silence.  The ancient art of the pause.  Silence, the forgotten 5th element of performance.  At certain shows, the time in-between songs is more important then how you deliver the songs themselves. I  learn from comedians the same way I learn from rappers on stage.  Working the crowd. How to use silence and pausing to your advantage.  Aziz Ansari is perfecting his craft.

Huge shout out to Buildstrong, Funner and Wild Card Entertainment. I was kinda dead by the time we got to this one, and there were entirely too many people on stage. But I don’t think the sold out crowd at The Wild Buffalo was really tripping. Classic night.
